Meditation and Karmic Memory

Sage Patanjali has revealed the Science of Yoga in 200 Sutras or Threads. The most important is “Chitta Vritta Nirodha which means “Cessation of Mental Modifications of Mind”.

This is also the Goal of Yoga. Thoughtless Mind is one of the advanced stages of Samadhi. This means it prompts Union of Individual Consciousness with the Universal Consciousness and ultimately Enlightenment.

This implies, ultimate goal of Yoga is annihilation of Karmic Memories. Because, as long as thoughts exists, in the mind, mental fluctuations will never cease to exist.

In other words, Spirituality is just getting out of the Karmic Memory Cycle.

To begin Meditation, first step is always Pratyahara or turning the senses inwards. This is important so that further accumulation of Karmic Memory from the external environment stops.

But, what about previously accumulated Karma? It is an uphill task to get rid of Karmic Memory from the PAST especially from Past Lives and is rarely possible for a person on his own.

For this reason, the role of a LIVE GURU becomes very important for a Spiritual Aspirant. Without a LIVE GURU, the real goal of YOGA which is to unite with the Universal Consciousness remains far fetched.
